Florence Pictures!!!
Dinner in Florence, we splurged and got a nice meal for once!
Venice!!! Here is the amazing cathedral where the entire service was in italian and there were a lot of crazy rituals, but definitely interesting.
The Rialto!
Venice was so amazing. We went to the Biennale for basically three of the days, ate tons of gelatos, and pizza. We went to the Guggenhiem Museum, which is really one of my favorites now, it is just full of art work that I love. We went to the island Lido, that has really nice beaches! I played frisbee with Sean and Scott and I hit an italian man in the face and it was really funny.
For our classes, we finished the Merchant of Venice, watched the movie with Al Pacino, and talked about it. Our other classes were going to the great Museums and seeing the wonderful art in Venice, with Tintoretto being the main one for Venice. Also, we have been reading tons of poetry, and one of our classes was going to the Lido, our teacher reading us a poem about the Lido, and then spending the day at the beach on the Lido!
I saw Paris Hilton walking along Saint Marco square right in front of Doges Palace, and although she is like the stupidest celebrity in the world, it was still kind of cool haha.
We went to a church service in one of the old buildings, and it was really amazing. The entire interior was gold plated and the lights from outside were shining in in rays, and it was really beautiful.
And for the nightlife, we ended up one night at a communist festival. That was really fun haha, they played a lot of reggae music.. which was really random.
Then on the last night, my english teacher showed Dana, Aubrey and I this really cool dock looking over the grand canal, and I brought my guitar out and we played until around 3:00 in the morning. It was beautiful seeing the water shimmer from the moon and the gondolas floating by, it really couldn't of been better.
Now we are in Florence, and we went to see the gates of Paradise, we walked through the leather market and we ate a great meal. I got gnocci, and it was sooooooo good. The waiters were really funny too and gave us a good discount on everything. Now I am back in the hotel with free wifi!!!!
I am sorry for the delay in blog entries, I know I am lame.
Song of the Day (sorry it's got spanish stuff haha, kind of funny though, I have played this song soo many times, and it is beautiful)
French Word of the Day

Nice photos! Glad you're loving Italy. I've been to the Biennale a couple times, and it truly is an amazing experience: the art can be hit or miss, but wandering the gardens and pavilions with all sorts of international tourists and art-lovers is pretty magical. And did you know that "The Way You Look Tonight," from the wonderful movie, Swing Time, was written by your distant relative Jerome Kern? Supposedly related to us through my dad's family.

ReplyDeleteDid you go on any gondolas? Do they have any other kinds of boats there, like kayaks, canoes, or rowboats running around the canals? I'm wondering what that tunnel in the building goes to. Venice looks pretty amazing. Too bad it's sinking...
ReplyDeleteyou failed to mention how we played music on the street for the first time (the way you look tonight i think it was) and we got applause!!! we are awessomeee
ReplyDeleteGotta get a hat or guitar case. Leave it open, seed it with a little money, and soon you'll be on easy street.
ReplyDeleteThat's great lighting inside the cathedral.
