Uffizi

Today, John and I woke up later than planned and walked over to the Uffizi gallery. It was actually pretty amazing see all the art because they set it up in chronological order so that you can see the changes in time. Some of highlights were Giottos Madonna and Child Enthroned and basically all of Bottocellis amazing paints. Spring and Birth of the Venus were so great to see becAuse they have so much detail and Boticelli has such a soft style it makes it very peaceful. After the gallery we went back, I took a shower finally!(it has been awhile :p) then we had our poetry class. We focused on a couple of poems, an I actually really enjoyed this class. The theme of the poems were that they all were written About pieces of art, so we got in o discussion of whether art or words is more powerful, then we played a game similar to faxachine where you write a phrase, everyone draws, writes what they think, and it gets really funny until you get it back. Mine was, a fish flying over Florence with a balloon, and the last phrase I got when it came back to me was, the clown takes pleasure in basketball. H
ha it was really funny. Then we basically skipped art history because our class was going to the uffizi, so I went back to my room and Dana and I learned a bunch of new guitar songs like come away with me by Norah jones and an india Ariel song, it was really fun! Then our whole group went to a pretty sweet club and danced or a long time, now I am really tired an need to sleep because we have a busy day tomorrow!

I miss everyone!

Walking Tour of All of Florence!

Here are a couple pictures, I didn't take them because they were so intense in the museum about not using cameras, but I want to show the Robert Mapplethorpe photo with the unfinished Michealangelo.

Today was a great day. We woke up, had poetry class, had a photography class, and then walked through all of Florence. We went to the Medici Palace, the Petti Palace, and many others. We went to the Accademia and saw Michealangelo's David Sculpture, and also his unfinished prisoner sculptures which our almost even more intense and beautiful. Also at this museum, I found a new photographer that I love, Robert Mapplethorpe. A lot of his photos focus on the body and intense muscle forms, and they had a special exhibit of his photos next to Michealangelo's sculptures, and it was a really cool comparison. At the end of the tour, Eugene bought us all gelato for being such a good class for the day, then my friend Scott and I went to a music store and played some really expensive guitars together, it was great until we got yelled at for not asking, then we left. I went back to the hotel , took a really long nap, then went and got a chicken doner Kebab, the closest I can get to a california burrito back home. They are so amazingly good haha. Then I took a lot of photos in my room with my friend John, and then everyone started doing photo shoots and stuff, it was really fun.

We really saw a lot of Florence already today, so I am excited to see what the rest of the week will be like!

Update on Venice! and now Firenze!

Florence Pictures!!!
Dinner in Florence, we splurged and got a nice meal for once!

Venice!!! Here is the amazing cathedral where the entire service was in italian and there were a lot of crazy rituals, but definitely interesting.

The Rialto!

Venice was so amazing. We went to the Biennale for basically three of the days, ate tons of gelatos, and pizza. We went to the Guggenhiem Museum, which is really one of my favorites now, it is just full of art work that I love. We went to the island Lido, that has really nice beaches! I played frisbee with Sean and Scott and I hit an italian man in the face and it was really funny.

For our classes, we finished the Merchant of Venice, watched the movie with Al Pacino, and talked about it. Our other classes were going to the great Museums and seeing the wonderful art in Venice, with Tintoretto being the main one for Venice. Also, we have been reading tons of poetry, and one of our classes was going to the Lido, our teacher reading us a poem about the Lido, and then spending the day at the beach on the Lido!

I saw Paris Hilton walking along Saint Marco square right in front of Doges Palace, and although she is like the stupidest celebrity in the world, it was still kind of cool haha.

We went to a church service in one of the old buildings, and it was really amazing. The entire interior was gold plated and the lights from outside were shining in in rays, and it was really beautiful.

And for the nightlife, we ended up one night at a communist festival. That was really fun haha, they played a lot of reggae music.. which was really random.

Then on the last night, my english teacher showed Dana, Aubrey and I this really cool dock looking over the grand canal, and I brought my guitar out and we played until around 3:00 in the morning. It was beautiful seeing the water shimmer from the moon and the gondolas floating by, it really couldn't of been better.

Now we are in Florence, and we went to see the gates of Paradise, we walked through the leather market and we ate a great meal. I got gnocci, and it was sooooooo good. The waiters were really funny too and gave us a good discount on everything. Now I am back in the hotel with free wifi!!!!

I am sorry for the delay in blog entries, I know I am lame.

Song of the Day (sorry it's got spanish stuff haha, kind of funny though, I have played this song soo many times, and it is beautiful)
